Ian Nichols
Ian is the WIN Business Manager. Ian's role is to coach and lead the WIN team and bring together the resources and the clients so applied agro-meteorology can prosper in Ontario. As well as being the WIN business analyst, Ian is responsible for networking and initiating new services for WIN clients. Ian, originally launched the program as a pilot study known as the Ontario Weather Network in 2000. He has a B.Sc. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Guelph and taught Ag-Business courses in the Ridgetown College diploma program. Contact Ian

Rob Danford
Rob obtained his B.Sc. Engineering and Computing in 2003. Having been involved with systems integration and information delivery since 2003, Rob directs technical operations at WIN. In addition to IT systems, Rob spent a number of years working with environmental monitoring equipment and data acquisition systems. While working toward a P.Eng designation, Rob continually creates and adapts sensor and communication technology to further the delivery of weather based programs. Contact Rob

Ron Pitblado
Dr. Ron Pitblado is a plant pathologist with additional expertise in many areas of crop production and management. Ron is the creator of the BeetCast and TomCast models that are used to create WIN maps and reports. He holds a B.Sc. in Agriculture, M.Sc. in Plant Pathology and Ph.D. in Plant Pathology & Genetics. Ron was one of the original visionaries for a weather based modelling service in Ontario. Dr. Pitblado has published numerous papers, contributed to several books and has been a frequent speaker on the meeting circuit. Contact Ron

Jean Nichols
Jean Nichols brings to the team some first hand experience in agriculture. She is actively involved in cash crop farming and was previously employed as a technician in a corn processing facility. Jean graduated from the University of Guelph with a B.A. in Psychology. At WIN, Jean’s responsibilities started prior to the incorporation of the business and expand on an ongoing basis. Jonathan Brinkman
As the senior field technician, Jonathan’s main responsibilities include the maintenance of monitoring equipment, collection of raw data, and guidance and development of the networks in Ontario and Michigan. As the longest standing member of the technical team at WIN, Jonathan also provides expertise to other staff, prepares reports and offers invaluable input to the planning of up and coming projects. Jonathan is a graduate of Redeemer University College with a B.A. majoring in history and biology. He also holds a diploma in agriculture from Ridgetown College. Contact Jonathan

Jared Dahms
As lead technician for operations in western Canada, Jared’s main responsibility is the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of our Saskatchewan weather monitoring network. Jared received his diploma in Environmental Management from Ridgetown College in 2005. Contact Jared

Wayne Heinen
Wayne is WIN's head of operations for the Niagara Region. He is responsible for collecting raw weather data, as well as the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of weather monitoring equipment. Wayne's responsibilities focus on irrigation and fungicide applications in grapes and tender fruit. In Spring 2006, Wayne obtained his B.Sc., majoring in Physical Science with an emphasis in meteorology, and a minor in Environmental Studies from the University of Guelph. Contact Wayne

Craig Jacques
Craig joined WIN as an environmental program coordinator in April, 2007. He completed his B.Sc. from McMaster in Earth & Environmental Sciences in 2005, specializing in the hydrosciences. Paulo Sentelhas
Dr. Paulo Sentelhas joined WIN as agrometeorologist. Paulo contributes valuable experience in many areas related to his expertise - crop simulation models; crop zoning; leaf wetness duration measurement and estimation; crop water balance; and irrigation requirements. He holds a B.Sc. in Agronomy, M.Sc. in Agrometeorology and Ph.D. in Irrigation. He has published approximately 100 papers and contributed to several books during his career. Contact Paulo

Clare Xue
Clare joined WIN in a database development role. She began her employment with WIN on a part-time basis, while completing her Ph.D. At that time her primary role was working on a European modelling project. Since completing her Ph.D. and commencing full-time activities, Clare’s responsibilities now include data processing applications and database developments. Clare earned her M.Sc. and Ph. D. in Computer Science, at the University of Western Ontario.

Ben Cross
Ben has returned to WIN after spending the previous two summers as a field technician in Saskatchewan. He will now be focusing on data quality control and assurance for Saskatchewan, as well as assisting with equipment installation and repair in Ontario. Ben graduated from the University of Guelph in 2008, with a major in Earth Surface Science and a minor in GIS and Environmental Analysis.

Blair Freeman
Blair joined WIN in April 2008 as a summer student. He is responsible for equipment site visits and wheat related projects. Blair has completed 2 years of a B.Sc. (Agr.) at the University of Guelph, majoring in Agronomy. In addition to a background in agriculture, Blair has experience in crop scouting, spraying in southern Ontario and harvesting forages in the US midwest.
